When conducting physical therapy or other research, physical therapists are required to ensure they have been formally granted ethics approval. This is required in the College’s Practice Standard 7: Consent (PDF).
Most research ethics boards associated with universities and other organizations such as health authorities require studies involving human subjects to have been granted the necessary research ethics approval. The approval process requires researchers to review, complete, and follow the ethical guidelines in the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2) (PDF); additionally researchers are usually required to complete the TCPS 2: Course on Research Ethics (CORE) prior to completing an ethics application.
