Update on Amalgamation of Regulatory Colleges

Activities are underway to amalgamate CPTBC with six other regulatory colleges and four other Colleges as part of another amalgamation as part of the BC Ministry of Health’s commitment to modernize and strengthen health professions regulation.

The Ministry of Health appointed Allan Seckel K.C. to lead the two amalgamations under S.25.05(04) of the Health Professions Act by June 28, 2024. Mr. Seckel has a diverse background spanning private legal practice, public service, and the not-for-profit sector in BC.

In this position, he assumes the powers of the college boards for work relating to amalgamations. Each college board will retain powers relating to their respective colleges’ day-to-day business, including operational decisions unrelated to, or do not influence amalgamation.

A team from Deloitte Consulting is developing a plan that is expected by early Fall 2023. This plan will set out the initiatives that must be completed by the amalgamation date and is being informed by all the colleges involved in the amalgamation process.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.
