Renewal Outtakes: Professional Liability Insurance

During registration renewal, registrants enter information about their current professional liability insurance (PLI) coverage (name of the insurance provider, policy certificate number).

After renewal, staff contacted 135 registrants whose information showed anomalies.

Of those, 82% had the correct PLI but had either selected the wrong insurance provider or had entered the wrong policy certificate number.

Others entered information about different insurance coverage. Note that clinic liability insurance, employment practices liability insurance, and commercial or general liability insurance differ from individual professional liability insurance.

Registrants are reminded to maintain PLI of at least $3 million per occurrence throughout their full registration (Bylaw 82). They must report their coverage information accurately when they renew their registration and provide proof of individual PLI when requested by the College.
