Registrant Competence Assessment 2018

Deferrals

A registrant may apply for a deferral from the October RCA sessions for either medical or compassionate reasons as per the policy on deferrals.

Deadline: August 15, 20181

How to apply:

In writing (emailed, mailed, faxed or hand delivered) to Chris Smerdon, QAP Manager, including:

  • the reason for the deferral;
  • whether you are requesting a deferral to November 2018 OR to April 20192;
  • your signature;
  • a deferral supplemental documentation form completed by your physician or midwife if it’s a medical reason for the deferral.

Outcome: You will receive a response in writing within 1 month of the completed application being received.

For more information, please contact Chris at chris_smerdon@cptbc.org.

1 A late fee of $300 may be charged for applications received after this date. It will not be charged if the reason for deferral arises after the deadline.

2 If you are granted a deferral to April 2019 you will only have one attempt to meet standard on the RCA. If you do not meet standard, the next step will be an Assessment of Professional Performance. This is not for punitive reasons; it’s an attempt to be flexible by allowing deferrals to a later date while meeting other operational requirements.

Special Accommodations

A registrant may apply for a special accommodation to complete the RCA (e.g. extra time, someone to read the screen content) as per the policy.

Deadline: August 15, 20181

How to apply:

In writing (emailed, mailed, faxed or hand delivered) to Chris Smerdon, QAP Manager, including:

  • a brief description of the impairment;
  • how the identified impairment impacts the registrant’s ability to complete the RCA; and
  • how the requested accommodation(s) mitigate(s) the impairment within the specific context of the RCA;
  • if you have evidence supporting your request, this may also be included; e.g. an excerpt from a psychoeducational report.

Outcome: You will receive a response in writing within 1 month of the completed application being received. It will contain instructions on how to book your RCA session in light of the accommodations that can be provided.

For more information, please contact Chris at chris_smerdon@cptbc.org.

1A late fee of $300 may be charged for applications received after this date. It will not be charged if the accommodation cannot be provided.
